COLOR TRAP

Color Trap

About the game and how to play

Color Trap is a fast focus game built on the famous Stroop effect: a colour name appears, but painted in another colour — BLUE in yellow, say. The rule on top tells you what to pick: on WORD you pick what it says, on COLOUR you pick the colour it is painted in. The rule changes from question to question, and your brain reads the word first every time — that is the trap. Score with streak bonuses in the 60-second classic mode, hold out on three lives against an ever shorter clock in Survival, play the daily trap that is the same for everyone, or race friends on the same questions online with a room code. Three levels: Easy, Medium and Hard, where even the buttons' captions lie.

How to play

  1. Pick a mode: Classic (60 seconds), Survival (3 lives) or the daily trap.
  2. Pick a level: Easy (4 colours), Medium (6 colours, moving buttons) or Hard (8 colours and extra traps).
  3. Read the rule on top: WORD — pick what it says, COLOUR — pick the colour it is painted in.
  4. Build streak bonuses with right answers in a row; a mistake resets the streak.

Tips

  • Look at the rule first, then the word: on COLOUR, try not to read the word at all — just see the colour.
  • Don't rush: one mistake costs 5 points and wipes out a big streak bonus.
  • On Medium and Hard the buttons move — find the answer by its caption, not by its place.
  • On a computer, the number keys 1–8 are faster than clicking.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Stroop effect?

When a colour name is printed in a different colour (BLUE in yellow), naming the colour gets harder, because the brain reads the word automatically. Psychologist John Ridley Stroop described the effect in 1935, and it is widely used in attention tests.

How is Color Trap scored?

Every right answer is worth 10 points, and each answer in a streak adds +2 more (up to +20). A wrong answer costs 5 points and resets the streak. In Survival, your result is the number of right answers.

What does the “Neither” rule mean?

It only appears on Hard: out of three options, pick the one that is neither the written word nor the colour it is painted in.

How do I race my friends?

In Online race, create a room, choose the level and the length (30, 60 or 90 seconds) and share the code. Everyone answers the same questions at the same time, and the most points when the clock runs out wins.
