Chimp Test
About the game and how to play
Chimp Test is a simple but tough game for your short-term visual memory. Numbers starting from 1 appear in boxes on a grid. As soon as you tap 1, the rest turn into blank boxes and you have to find them from memory, in order. Every level you clear adds one number, every mistake costs a life, and the run ends after three. The game is inspired by a famous memory experiment with chimpanzees at Kyoto University. In Quick look mode the numbers hide by themselves after a few seconds. Play solo to beat your record, or open a room and race your friends on the very same grids.

How to play
- Choose solo play or create a room, and pick a mode: Classic or Quick look.
- Memorise where the numbers are on the grid and tap 1 — the other numbers hide.
- Tap the blank boxes in order, 2, 3, 4…; get them all right and the next level has one number more.
- A wrong box costs a life and the same count comes back on a new layout; after three mistakes your score is the largest count you cleared.
Tips
- Remember the numbers as a path rather than one by one: picture the line your finger draws from the first to the last.
- Group nearby boxes: three or four numbers are easier to hold as one shape, like a triangle or a straight line.
- Take your time in Classic mode — the numbers stay until you tap 1, so look for as long as you need.
- After a mistake the red box shows your wrong tap and the green ring shows the box that was next — use it to see where you got mixed up.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Chimp Test?
It is a game that tests short-term visual memory: you memorise where the numbers you saw for a moment are, then tap them in order. It takes its name from a famous memory experiment with chimpanzees at Kyoto University.
How is the score worked out?
The game starts with 4 numbers and adds one with every level you clear. After three mistakes your score is the largest count you got right. Your record is kept separately for each mode.
What is the difference between Classic and Quick look?
In Classic the numbers stay in sight until you tap 1. In Quick look they hide by themselves after a few seconds — 1.6 seconds for 4 numbers and 0.2 seconds more for every extra number.
How does the online race work?
Choose Create room, pick a mode and send the code to your friends. Everyone plays the same grids at their own pace and you can see live which level each player is on. Whoever remembers the most numbers wins; on a tie, whoever got there first.
