GUESS THE NUMBER

Guess the Number

About the game and how to play

Guess the Number is a simple but surprisingly tense guessing game. The host picks a secret number within a range, the players guess and each guess comes back as “higher” or “lower”. With a smart strategy — like halving the range each time — you can find the number in very few tries.

How to play

  1. The host picks the range and sets the secret number.
  2. Players send in their guesses.
  3. After each guess you learn whether the secret number is higher or lower.
  4. The first player to hit the exact number wins.

Tips

  • Always guess the middle of whatever range is still possible: halving each time finds any number from 1–100 in at most 7 guesses and from 1–1,000,000 in at most 20.
  • Every player's guess and its higher/lower answer goes into the shared log, so use other people's results to tighten your own bounds instead of starting from scratch.
  • If the host picked Latest only history, you only see the most recent guess, so keep track of the current lowest and highest possible values yourself.
  • In Free-for-all there are no turns and the first exact hit wins, so speed matters; in Sequential mode, remember that your guess also narrows the range for the next player.

Frequently asked questions

Who wins Guess the Number: the fewest tries or the fastest?

The first guesser to name the exact number wins on the spot. If the host set an attempt limit and every guesser uses it up, nobody wins and the secret number is revealed.

What range can the secret number be in?

The host picks a preset from 1–100 up to 1–1,000,000, or sets a custom minimum and maximum up to 1,000,000,000. Guesses outside the range, or with a leading zero, are rejected.

What is the difference between Sequential and Free-for-all?

In Sequential mode guessers take turns in order, and the turn skips anyone who has run out of attempts. In Free-for-all everyone can guess at any time, so quick players get more tries in.

Does the host guess too?

No. The host only picks and locks in the number, then watches while everyone else guesses. A room needs at least 2 players (the host plus one guesser) and holds up to 20.
