Story Builder
About the game and how to play
Story Builder is a creative group game where players take turns adding one sentence to a shared story. Everyone watches the story grow, but nobody knows what the next writer will add, so it regularly veers somewhere nobody planned. Switch on Random Twist Mode and surprise prompts pop up mid-story. At the end you read the finished tale together.

How to play
- Create a room and choose how many sentences each player writes.
- When it is your turn, write one sentence that continues the story.
- Turn on Random Twist Mode if you want surprise prompts.
- Once everyone is done, read the whole story together.
Tips
- End your sentence on an open hook — a question, a sudden noise, a new name — so the next writer has something to grab onto.
- The whole story is visible as it grows, so plan your line while others are writing: a turn lasts only 15–120 seconds and a sentence is capped at 200 characters.
- When a twist pops up in Random Twist Mode, weave it in naturally rather than bolting it on — those moments usually make the funniest part of the story.
- As the host, raise the turn timer if some players type slowly; you can also close the story at any time with End story.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a winner in Story Builder?
No, it’s a cooperative game with no scoring. At the end you see the full story and how many sentences each player contributed.
What if I don’t write my sentence in time?
Your turn is skipped and passes to the next player, and everyone sees that you were skipped. You can also skip on purpose; skipped turns don’t count toward the total, so the story still reaches its full length.
How long does a story get?
The host picks 1 to 10 sentences per player, and the total is that number times the number of players — 5 players writing 3 sentences each make a 15-sentence story. The host can also end it early.
What kind of twists appear in Random Twist Mode?
Short surprise prompts such as “A mysterious stranger appears” or “Time suddenly freezes”. They show up on some turns, not every one, and the next writer is meant to work them into their sentence.
