CRAZY EIGHTS

Crazy Eights

About the game and how to play

Crazy Eights is a fast card game with coloured cards: match the card on the pile by colour or by number, slow your rivals down with Skip, Reverse and +2, and change the colour with a Wild. The first player to get rid of every card wins the round and scores the cards the others still hold. The table has house rules too: stacking +2 and +4, catching anyone who forgets to call “Last card!”, jumping in with an identical card, a 3 that passes every hand along, a 0 that swaps hands with the player of your choice, and a slap race whenever a 7 is played. Play straight away against bots, or open a room for up to 8 friends — bots can fill any empty seats.

How to play

  1. Choose Vs bots and set how many play and how hard the bots are, or create a room and invite your friends with its code.
  2. On your turn play a card matching the pile’s colour or its number/symbol; a Wild goes on anything and you name the colour.
  3. No card that fits? Draw one from the deck — if it fits, you can play it right away.
  4. Down to one card, press “Last card!”; whoever empties their hand first wins the round.

Tips

  • Save your Wilds and +4s for the end: they fit anywhere, so they get you out of a tight spot.
  • When the next player is down to one or two cards, use a Skip, Reverse or +2 on them.
  • Watch which colours your rivals draw on: switching to a colour they lack can win you a whole turn.
  • With the 7 rule on, keep your finger ready — in the slap race the slowest draws a card.

Frequently asked questions

How do you play Crazy Eights?

Everyone is dealt 7 cards. In turn, each player plays a card matching the pile’s colour or number; with no match, they draw from the deck. Skip passes over the next player, Reverse changes direction, +2 and +4 make the next player draw, and a Wild changes the colour. The first to empty their hand wins.

Which house rules does Crazy Eights have?

There are six, and each can be switched on or off when the room is made: stacking +2/+4, a +2 penalty for forgetting “Last card!”, jumping in with an identical card, a 3 that passes every hand along, a 0 that swaps hands with a chosen player, and a slap race after a 7.

What happens when a 7 is played?

With the 7 rule on, a big hand button appears and everyone has 3 seconds. The slowest player and anyone who never presses it draw one card from the deck. The bots race too.

Can bots and friends play at the same table?

Yes. Pick 2–8 seats for the room; friends take seats first and, if you like, easy, normal or hard bots play any that are left empty. To play alone there is the Vs bots mode.
